1983 BMW E21 Resto | Removing The Engine Without An Engine Crane!
So i managed to get the engine out of the E21 without an engine crane. this means I can now crack on with the front suspension and all the underside. hopefully, once all the suspension is sorted ill start cutting and replacing all the rusty metal, once finished I can continue to work on the engine and build it how I have planned.

I managed to lose the first memory card I filmed on so this is all I had. The rear subframe for the e21 got camber and toe adjustment plates welded on and the fuel tanks were dropped. I then sent all the rear suspension parts to the powder coaters so they are now ready to go on with all new powerflex heritage bushes. A lot more videos to come from this car so look out.

After 6 years of sitting in a garage covered up, my e21 gets its first wash and paint correction. after further inspection the paintwork isn't as good as first thought, so along with the rust repairs, some new paint will be applied. after a few months, this is where I've got with it. driving it to college and everywhere else. Done a few things to it since the last vid: 60/50 AP suspension, front brace, arb block, GT rims, Weber 32TLA carb and 1.3 cam. driving very nicely with the help from the polo community. But the look might be changing in the next few weeks so look out for it.

After 2 years are they still good? Did you change the camber on the rear wheels or they leaned by themselves when you installed the coilovers?
Unfortunately I took the car off the road to be restored, I remember the top mounts started to knock but they were a cheaper brand

My parents had one when I was small! Great car, never gave any trouble. Those engines could live forever. Unfortunately all the bodies had rust issues. Most of them you'll find now are red rotten. Great to see one up close again; really brings back memories.
They certainly do suffer from rust issues, luckly mine hasnt gotton to the arches yet so no major body work has to be done, im currently cracking on with the underside rot atm. Hoping to soon put all my new stuff bacl on

Yeah thats why i when with this style, a little more fiddly to get set up but once they are on they wont change position

@@SincMedia aight so any tips on restoring one I've got an official blata that's been sitting under a shed for years. I was trying to take the bills off that hold the engine on to the frame but one of them is stripped
@@dmula3114 ok so for the bolts, if thats what you meant by bills, i wouldnt let them unmotivate you. First try extractor sockets and tools like that with a bit of heat, next best thing is welding something onto the end if you can or drilling it out. With steel bits, clean and paint with a can or send off for powdercoating. ally parts, wirebrush or wd40 and scotchbrght or even better vapour blasting. Plastic, probably wd40 and scotchbright or painting. With the engine, id take it apart before trying to turn it over to stop causing damage if dry, replace rings and piston if you can find the parts, just a very deep clean and fresh fluids should sort it.
@@SincMedia thanks man got the motor off. Gonna check for compression make sure internals are good and then get a spark plug and check for smoke anything else I should do? Been sitting for over 10 years
@@dmula3114 ok great, so before turning it over id get some 2 stroke mix down the cylinder so its not dry when you to check for compression. If it does look to be in good order then, a correctly gapped starkplug, a clean carb and fresh fuel should have it running easily

Looks like a minter! Where did you get those rims? really like them! I've just bought a bready, slowly putting bits on. I've also got some 60/50 suspension which needs fitting. Not sure my alloys will go under the rear arches though so might just do the front for now.
Thanks mate, they are original gt steel wheels, pretty hard to find now but they are just an inch wider than stock. Got the stock hub caps on them as well which are pretty rare as well😅 im on 60/50 and the wheels are 13 x 5.5 et38 i believe.

when i unplug the wire to the buttons, they all get pressed (as if they were held down). so it makes it annoying in windows is there a way to stop that

@@SincMedia yea I think I might, I had a wood wheel on there and it was far to heavy even with an upgraded power supply. I was thinking of going with a aluminium wheel with no buttons to keep the weight down but the stock wheel is actually fine, especially with vr

you will be better off buying a used reamer off ebay, use it and resell on ebay as many mini owners need to do this job at sometime in the minis life.
